Why visit
Diyadahara sits on the southern shore of Yodha Wewa (Yoda Kandiya Lake), one of the ancient reservoirs that have watered the Tissamaharama area for centuries. Today it is a calm, wide sheet of water with big skies and rich birdlife.
What to expect
Mornings bring mist, fishermen and wading birds; evenings bring golden light and flocks heading to roost. It is the perfect slow counterpoint to an early safari — and it is right on your doorstep.
Out on the water

Tips for your visit
- Bring binoculars for herons, cormorants, kingfishers and painted storks
- The light is softest in the first hour after sunrise
- Keep a respectful distance from the water's edge — crocodiles live in many Sri Lankan lakes
